NANOMYTE® MEND Self-Healing Coatings

NEI has developed a line of self-healing top coats, where a physical self-healing phenomenon leads to gap closing and crack sealing. The innovative technology platform is applicable to a broad range of substrates, such as metal, wood, and polymers – including those that require maintaining a clear, glossy appearance.

NANOMYTE® MEND coatings can be healed multiple times at the same defect location, thereby reducing life cycle costs by increasing the service life and reducing maintenance costs of the various substrates to which it is applied.

The MEND coating platform is based on polyurethane, but the principle can be applied to other coating systems as well. The properties of the coating, such as hardness, gloss, and refractive index, can also be altered as needed for a specific application.

In response to the need for self-healing required in different environments, the NANOMYTE® MEND line of self-healing coatings has been expanded to seven (7) different formulations, each with varying temperatures and conditions for curing & self-healing.

NANOMYTE® MEND 1000

Thermal Cure – Thermal Healing

NANOMYTE® MEND 1000 is a two component solventborne, self-healing coating that is thermally cured (35°C min.) after application. When the coated surface is scratched or cracked, it can be self-healed by the application of warm air for several seconds with a simple device, such as a household hair dryer. MEND 1000 is now available in two formulations: original and with UV protection.

  • Base Solvent: Toluene
  • Curing Temperature: 60°C (min.)
  • Healing Temperature: 60 – 80 °C

NANOMYTE® MEND 1000 »

MEND 1000 is a thermally-induced, self-healing coating. The 2-part coating involves a unique phase-separated morphology that facilitates the delivery of the self-healing agent to the damage site (such as a scratch or crack) thereby restoring the coating appearance & function. The coating can be self-healed by the application of warm air for several seconds with a simple device, such as a household hair dryer.

NANOMYTE® MEND 1000-UVP »

MEND 1000-UVP is a thermally-induced, self-healing coating with enhanced weatherability and the ability to protect UV-sensitive surfaces. Just like MEND 1000, MEND 1000-UVP’s self-healing is activated by the application of warm air to the scratched or damaged coating, thereby restoring its original appearance & function.

NANOMYTE® MEND 2000

Thermal Cure – Room Temperature Healing

NANOMYTE® MEND 2000 is a two component solventborne, self-healing coating that is thermally cured (35°C min.) after application. When the coated surface is scratched or cracked, self-healing is initiated at room temperature (25°C min.) or can be accelerated at higher temperatures (> 40°C). MEND 2000 is now available in two formulations, original and with UV protection.

NANOMYTE® MEND 2000 »

MEND 2000 is a thermally-induced, self-healing coating. Self-healing is initiated at room temperature or above (≥ 25°C).

MEND 2000-UVP is a thermally-induced, self-healing coating with enhanced weatherability and the ability to protect UV-sensitive surfaces. Just like MEND 2000, MEND 2000-UVP’s self-healing is initiated at room temperature or above (≥ 25°C).

Ambient Cure – Thermal Healing

NANOMYTE® MEND 3000 is a two component solventborne, self-healing coating that can be cured at room temperature (20°C min.) after application. When the coated surface is scratched or cracked, self-healing is activated with the application of warm air (60 – 80 °C) for several seconds with a household hair dryer or other device. MEND 3000 is now available in two formulations: original and with UV protection.

Just like MEND 3000, the two-component UVP coating’s self-healing is activated by the application of warm air to the scratched or damaged coating, thereby restoring its original appearance & function.

NANOMYTE® MEND 4000

Ambient Cure – Thermal Healing

NANOMYTE® MEND 4000 is a single component waterborne, self-healing coating that can be cured at room temperature (25°C min.) after application. When the coated surface is scratched or cracked, self-healing is activated with the application of warm air (60 – 80 °C) for several seconds with a household hair dryer or other device.

NANOMYTE® MEND 4000 »

MEND 4000 is a crystal clear, fast drying, high gloss protective finish for use over bare or stained wood, paint, plastics and metal. The waterborne formulation is low-odor and easily cleaned up with soap and water. The dry film has unique self-healing properties upon application of mild heat (60°C / 140°F) for several seconds, enabling a complete and rapid removal of many types of scratches and swirl marks which may accumulate with use.

All of our NANOMYTE® MEND self-healing coatings are available in liter and gallon quantities and can be applied by dipping, spraying, roll, or flow coating. Additionally, NEI offers in-house coating services for customer’s parts, as well as coating development services, wherein coating formulations are customized to address specific customer requirements.
