Cathode Powders for Lithium-ion Batteries
Lithium Manganese Nickel Oxide (“LMNO,” LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4) cathode powders are a compelling alternative for next-generation lithium-ion batteries due to their unique blend of properties. The spinel crystal structure of LMNO offers inherent structural stability, leading to excellent cycling performance with minimal capacity fade during charge-discharge cycles. This translates to extended battery lifespans, a crucial factor for electric vehicles and other demanding applications. Furthermore, LMNO boasts high voltage capability, allowing for increased energy density compared to traditional Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cathodes. The inclusion of nickel contributes to enhanced theoretical specific capacity, pushing the boundaries of energy storage potential.
In conclusion, LMNO spinel cathode materials present a promising avenue for high-durability and high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, particularly in applications demanding long cycle life and efficient energy storage.
NEI offers two variations of Lithium Manganese Nickel Oxide. NANOMYTE® SP-10 is an uncoated LMNO powder, produced by a novel process that leads to exceptional cycling stability. NANOMYTE® SP-10C is LMNO powder with a 0.1 wt% LATP coating on the surface of the particles. NEI’s manufacturing process is versatile and allows modifications to the composition, morphology, and particle size. As a result, these materials can be tailored to meet the needs of your specific application. Notably, our LMNO materials are also available as cast electrode sheets (tapes / films).
