NEI is seeking highly technical individuals with a strong background in Materials Science & Engineering and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Materials Chemistry – Inorganic materials, e.g., mixed metal oxides, sulfides
  • Polymer processing – e.g., polymer solid electrolytes
  • Chemistry of Lithium-ion battery electrode and electrolyte materials
  • Lithium-ion cell fabrication and electrochemical testing
  • Inorganic powder synthesis and surface modification of particles
  • Materials characterization using techniques, such as XRD, SEM, IR and Raman Spectroscopy

The individual’s primary responsibility will be to work with NEI’s customers to address application-specific materials requirements. In addition, the position will entail augmenting existing product development programs and initiating new ones. The product development specialist is expected to have hands-on experience. The successful candidate will need to apply Materials Science & Engineering principles to develop new materials for industrial applications.

In addition to technical skills, the individual should be able to work autonomously yet be a team player, detail-oriented, creative, and communicate well with colleagues and customers. It is desirable for the candidate to have working knowledge of computer networks and experience with data collection & analysis.

Examples of Skills Needed:

  • Hands-on experience with inorganic, organic or hybrid materials
  • Wet chemistry and solid state synthesis of materials
  • In-depth knowledge of recent advances in Materials Science
  • Experience with nanoscale particles
  • Applications development experience

Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidates meeting the requirements for this position may come from a wide variety of technical fields such as Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, with either a BS, MS, or PhD degree. At least two to five years experience in the chemical or materials industry is preferred for this position.
